A Sign is A Sign

A Sign is A Sign

Some might have seen a ceramic cow holding a towel in the bathroom of this 1960s townhome and thought nothing of it, but for Sheri & Steve, it was everything. Planning a move north to Portland from California was stressful, it would mean retirement too, quite literally a whole new world. For much of their adult lives, Sheri & Steve have lived in the suburbs, but here we are, looking at a 60s townhome in the Alphabet District, walkable to anything and everything they could ever need.

This townhome was vintage, and I mean that in the best way. The current owner, now in her late 90s, had lived there for decades – nearly 50 years - and kept the home in tip top shape. But it wasn’t until we got to the upstairs bathroom when a cute little ceramic cow with brown eyes shocked Sheri & Steve.

I would later find out that in 1979 these two bought their first home together, and in that home, they hung the exact same cow in their kitchen as their towel hook. She would travel with them, from house to house over the last 46 years and was still in their current kitchen today.

We have no idea when the seller bought this cow… and it doesn’t matter. It was there.

Sometimes you need a sign that you’re in the right place.

Maybe it’s a book, or a butterfly, or a ceramic cow.

Sheri and Steve moved in last week to their townhome in the Alphabet District of Portland, so did Bessie the cow. They are city dwellers for the first time in their lives. A new adventure that feels so right. What a treat to see it come to life first hand.
