The question was 'what did you want to be when you grew up', sitting around a large U shaped table with 35-40 other Realtors. We all listened as each agent described their dream job as a child, along with the job they had prior to real estate. When my turn arrived, without hesitation, I said one word, RICH!
Most laughed, the assumption was obvious and rightfully so given the question. I was also the youngest in the room by an average of 25 years. But there was so much more to my answer.
Growing up my idea of rich was rather simple, and simplicity of it has stuck with me into my adult life… being able to buy anything I wanted at the grocery store. To me, that was rich. Obviously you grow up and realize the complexity of life, being rich became more of a mindset to me.
At 33 years old, I’m still figuring it out, but one thing is for certain, my life is rich.
All the money in the world can’t buy the happiness and safety that comes from a strong family unit and amazing friends. Being able to rely on my mom and dad when I need a little back up in my life is priceless. Having a close circle of girl friends who bring joy to every little event in life is equally so. There has never been more of an important time to have real people in your world, and I am endlessly blessed with them.
As our days are riddled with screen time and scrolling mindlessly, the world is passing by with or without us. I’ve started setting timers on all my apps, trying to not only save my eyes, but also my brain from the consumption of too much crap. I want to be more present, be it in my own body or amongst others.
Frankly, I have no idea how the holiday season is among us. I’m not ready. But are we ever ready? For anything?
I’m looking forward to more adventures, spending time with my people, and being present in this life I’m so proud to have built for myself.
My wish for you is an equally beautiful and present holiday season with your people, whomever they are, wherever feels like home. We only get one life, I hope it's magical.
